There's Now a Doctor Bob in the House

18 DEC 2007

Melbourne - In Melbourne, Australia last week, our Worldwide Creative Director, Bob Isherwood picked up a very special award.

He returned to his alma mater RMIT to receive an honorary doctorate. There's only one recipient of this particular honour each year, but Bob became a Doctor alongside 5,350 graduating students and a further 127 PhD students collecting their PhDs.

The Graduation Ceremony was held in the massive Telstra Dome, where around 30,000 people heard Bob's keynote speech - which is Bob's biggest gig so far.

Bob said that for the graduating students it was not so much carpe diem - seize the day, as "carpe vitam - seize your life".

He showed three Saatchi & Saatchi commercials to illustrate key points and these all drew warm applause from the audience. Bob showed "13" from New Zealand for Cash Converters, "Meteor" from Denmark for Kilroy Travel and "Rachel" for the UK's nursing recruitment campaign.

He urged the graduates to apply themselves to solving the world's problems - to be 'the one' who does something no one else has achieved before, reminding them that, "you are the only you who has ever lived. No one else thinks like you or dreams like you".

Bob was surrounded by graduates after his speech, telling him how inspirational his words had been, One lady, on the stage near Bob, was moved to tears, and Bob was told by the event organiser that it was the best speech he'd ever heard at a graduation ceremony.

Congratulations, Doctor Bob.
