Surprises on the Menu at P&G Cannes Dinner

28 JUN 2007

Cannes - For guests at Saturday night's Saatchi & Saatchi-hosted dinner for Procter & Gamble at Cannes, there wasn't just wonderful food on the menu.

Sitting in the middle of the Palme d'Or Restaurant as guests arrived, was a celebratory gold washing machine, on top of which was a gold washing basket, loaded with gold clothes. And inside the machine was the Press Grand Prix trophy awarded to our New York office for their 'Stains Don't Stand A Chance' campaign for Tide Ultra.

The second big surprise was a performance by 60's legend Donovan, who sang four of his songs to tell the story of P&G at Cannes since they started attending a few years ago.

His lyric, 'I may as well try and catch the wind' summed up the general feeling about P&G's initial chances of winning.

Next he played, 'I Love My Shirt' to illustrate the introduction of emotion.

This was followed by his observation that his business and P&G's were both based on insight and being inspired by everyday things: cue 'Colours'.

Finally he introduced his favourite sing-along number, by saying that P&G had now won the ultimate prize at Cannes, the Mellow Yellow Lion.

The gold washing machine is being shipped to Cincinnati. Donovan, as far as we know, isn't.
